If anyone could provide a bit of insight, I'd greatly appreciate it. The search terms for this kind of functionality is a bit tough to narrow. If this is not possible, could I instead stream the (filtered) data into a file and read it with a different script? I've looked at export options but they only seem to be after the packets are captured, not a 'live' file updating as new data comes in. I imagine that's not something really discussed here because of the implications with hacking and whatnot. I was hoping that the sniffer would be able to execute a command (to send the data off) when it detects the packets i care about, but I think that's hitting the grey area with scripting using wireshark. Some of these networking tools, like Wireshark. As an alternative, I'm sniffing the packets (using usbpcap), filtering the packets i want, and then I'd like to execute a script to automatically push this data into a database. network monitors, network intrusion detection systems, sniffers, traffic generators and network testers. I'm sampling a USB tool that has some proprietary software that doesn't let me manipulate data at all (can't even copy-paste out of it.). If you just want to 'sniff' the data on the RS-485 bus then both external hardware and software will be required. I know the wiki explains wireshark is not intended for scripting, but I didn't find much information as to how else to go about this. Wireshark can be run on the master to capture the traffic and dissect it.
